The Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding (SACU), founded in 1965, promotes friendship and understanding between the peoples of Britain and China. Its logo, the Chinese character for friendship, reflects this mission.
SACU achieves its goals through ongoing education about China and its people, guided by three core aims:
Over its 57-year history, SACU has amassed a vast collection of materials, including minutes, reports, newsletters, documents, photographs, magazines, videos, articles, and books. Recognizing the historical importance of this archive, SACU sought to provide online access to these resources. This initiative not only offers members, visitors, and researchers the opportunity to explore a significant record of China-UK relations but also ensures the preservation and protection of the original documents for future generations.
We are delighted to announce that SACU chose PastView as their publishing platform, thanks to its flexibility, user-friendly interface, and ease of updating. PastView not only provides the necessary tools to make SACU’s archive widely accessible but also allows the organization to differentiate between member and non-member benefits. By making this valuable archive available online, SACU can overcome physical barriers, further promote its aims and mission, and foster a deeper understanding of China and its own contributions. This initiative also supports the growth of SACU’s membership by reaching a broader audience.
Existing members now enjoy unrestricted access to SACU’s extensive archive, which includes a wealth of materials such as newsletters and detailed meeting discussions within a dedicated "Documents" section. The archive also features a rich collection of magazines, including China Eye, China in Focus, and China Now. Additionally, their photo card collection—accessible to everyone—showcases incredible images of life in China, such as fashion shows, all-women fishing teams and crews, women’s gymnastics, vibrant fruit markets, and celebratory events.
The new site was officially launched on January 22, 2023, and is ready to be explored and appreciated by all: https://archive.sacu.org/
Join us in celebrating SACU’s continued dedication and hard work, and in congratulating them on this significant step toward providing online access to their remarkable archive.
