Megan O'Hern-Crook

HAI - Director of Archives & Information Services

Megan O'Hern-Crook is a trained archivist and project manager and got her start in the field through working in public libraries. As a result, she is passionate about ensuring that information—and archives—are accessible to everyone. Megan worked with the AFL-CIO’s George Meany Memorial Archive at the University of Maryland. She also spent time working with the Maryland State Archives, where she conducted extensive historical research on the historic town of Brookeville, Maryland, “U.S. Capital for a Day” during the War of 1812.

As an archivist, Megan doesn’t specialize in just one subject—every collection she works with is unique and provides an immersive learning opportunity. Megan is fascinated by the ways that technology has changed the way we create information. She keeps up-to-date on changing best-practices revolutions in methodology pertaining to electronic records. She also maintains HAI's institutional membership with the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress. Megan specializes in collections assessments, action plans and roadmaps, archival organization and processing, cataloging, metadata creation, records management, collections management, and born-digital preservation.

Why do you need to process our collections before it gets digitized?
  • Many factors go into processing your collections before digitization happens. HAI works with you and our digitization partners to ensure the safety, organization, and thoroughness of digitizing your collections. HAI will make sure your collections are housed in archival containers and free of fasteners to limit the risk of harm and extend their preservation.
  • Our team works with NOS to create a step-by-step playbook to guide the organization of materials and capture metadata in order to facilitate digitization and the return of your physical and digital materials, ready for research and ingest into your DAMS and access platforms.
  • The physical processing of your collections ensures the seamless transition from physical to digital collections while preserving the arrangement and security of your archival collections throughout.
